Statement of Purpose: This position will manage the accounting functions of the Finance department that reports up through the VP of Accounting and Financial Reporting. Duties include processing accounting transactions and producing timely financial statements, management reports and analysis in accordance with GAAP and company policies. Some of the main responsibilities: Supervises accountants and is responsible for managing and completing the annual audit for their areas of responsibility. Participates in hiring and training of team members. Assists with the coordination of the work of the accounting team that reports to the VP of Accounting and Financial Reporting. Manages key financial, accounting, and reporting processes and systems ensuring compliance with existing company systems, fiscal policies and procedures, internal controls, as well as applicable professional standards, and GAAP. Reviews and approves journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by accountants. Coordinates federal and state corporate income tax return preparation with external audit firm. Returns include but are not limited to federal forms 990/990T, 1120 and state income tax forms. Assists with sales and property taxes filings. Prepares tax exemption applications and reviews properties to ensure they are properly valued and classified with the local taxing authority's assessor. Assists with VP of Accounting and Financial Reporting to ensure the following Financial Reporting related duties and responsibilities are fulfilled: Leads and ensures the proper completion of financial reports for month-end, quarterly, and year-end closing and as needed for compliance with regulatory reporting requirements. Leads the team that performs the month-end close for Sun Health Affiliated Organizations. Ensures that bond reporting and consolidated financial statements are done for an "Obligated Group" and "Affiliated Organizations" as well as all inter-company eliminations. Works closely with operations management to provide financial information for use in planning and budgeting and other operational decision making. Establishes and reports financial performance metrics for operations management. Prepares financial information and trends for stakeholders including administrators, senior management and board committees. Oversees financial reporting to federal or state agencies and ensures compliance in all aspects of financial operations. Participates in the review, analysis and implementation of corporate procedures and methodologies to improve efficiencies and ensure compliance. Demonstrate the Sun Health Vibrant Living culture and provides all customers/audience with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating Sun Health behaviors (the 6 Cs) each, and every day. Qualifications: Requires Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. Requires a proficiency level typically attained with a minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience including demonstrated abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Certified Public Accountant, or in process to obtain one, preferred. Great Plains accounting software preferred, or proficiency with other similar accounting software. Must be proficient in Excel. Nonprofit experience preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain a Level 1 Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
