Privacy Technician Revision Date: 8/23/2021 Department: Tribal Administration Employment Status: Full-Time Program: Quality/Compliance/Privacy FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Compliance and Privacy Manager Schedule: 40 Hours/52 Weeks Supervises: N/A Preference: TERO Ordinance 2017-01, P.L. 93-638 Job Summary The Privacy Technician is responsible for assisting the Compliance and Privacy Manager with monitoring privacy standards throughout the Tribe. The Privacy Technician is also responsible for reviewing all requests for records and ensuring that the proper forms and standards are being followed to ensure privacy of those involved. Assists with privacy portions of surveys. Responsible for monitoring implemented internal processes necessary to achieve and/or maintain applicable Federal, State and Municipal regulation and accreditation standards. Essential Functions Provides support to the Quality/Compliance/Privacy department in conducting surveys; ensure all applicable quality processes are implemented; prepare internal and external documents; and create and maintain reports Participates in Accreditation Teams and carries out associated annual plan work Reports and educates clinics/programs of changes in standards and on performance below standards Participates and/or leads Quality Orientation for new employees Handles all requests for medical and behavioral health information from un'ina (customer), the court system, private attorneys, government agencies such as the Office of Children Services and Adult Protective Services, etc. Assists with Release of Information (ROI) forms Collects medical and billing records; shares with requestors based upon regulations Communicates obstacles to the Director of Quality, Compliance & Privacy, and/or Quality Assurance Specialist in a timely manner Seeks out additional learning opportunities to continue developing the technical and professional skills needed now Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies, and TERO ordinance It is the intent of this job description to highlight the essential functions of the position; however, it is not an all-inclusive list. Working Conditions Lifting Requirements Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Physical Requirements Stand or Sit (Stationary position) Walk (Move, Traverse) Use hands/fingers to handle or feel (Operate, Activate, Use, Prepare, Inspect, Place, Detect, Position) Climb (stairs/ladders) or balance (Ascend/Descend, Work atop, Traverse) Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl (Position self (to), Move) Talk/hear (Communicate, Detect, Converse with, Discern, Convey, Express oneself, Exchange information) See (Detect, Determine, Perceive, Identify, Recognize, Judge, Observe, Inspect, Estimate, Assess) Taste/Smell (Detect, Distinguish, Determine) Pushing or Pulling Repetitive Motion OSHA Categories Category III - Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid Travel Local In-State Out-of-State Qualifications Education Associate's Degree in a Healthcare or Business related field, or a combination of education and experience may be substituted for a degree Experience One (1) year of clerical experience in healthcare Two (2) years of experience in privacy, HIPAA rules, sharing of medical/behavioral health information requested by un'ina or outside sources Preferred Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities License/Certification Must have a valid Alaska State Driver's License and remain insurable under the Tribe's policy Special Skills Proven ability to work on several projects simultaneously and under tight schedules Strong oral and written communications skills Strong facilitation skills Experience with standard business documents (e.g. contract language, grants) Knowledge of Medicaid and National healthcare compliance regulations and practices. As it relates to privacy, release of information, and HIPAA regulations Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain within 90 days of hire Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively Job Posted by ApplicantPro
