Job Description Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant Opportunity at Federal Medical Center Lexington (Bureau of Prisons), Lexington, KY * Excellent Pay * Monday Friday, 30 Hours per Week! * NO Weekends! NO Holidays! Note: This position is contingent upon contract award. POSITION OVERVIEW: All duties shall be performed in accordance with the Kentucky Board of Physical Therapy Examiners: Physical Therapy Rules, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations. The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Joint Commission and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions. The PTA must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial and ethnic backgrounds. DUTIES: The PTA shall be responsible for, but not limited to: * Screening patients designated by a PT as possible candidates for physical therapy services. Screening entails the collection of uniform information from all patients using a predetermined, standardized format. * Providing physical therapy services only under the supervision of a PT as specified in the physical therapy plan of care. a) Preparing patients, treatment areas and equipment, b) Implementing treatment programs that include therapeutic exercises; gait training and techniques; ADL training techniques; administration of therapeutic heat and cold; application of external bandages, dressings and support; performance of goniometric measurement. c) Modifying treatment techniques as indicated in the plan of care. * Responding to acute changes in physiological state. * Teaching other health care providers and patients to perform selected treatment procedures and functional activities. * Interacting with patients in a manner which provides the desired psycho-social support by recognizing reactions to illness and disability, respecting individual cultural, religious, and socioeconomic differences and utilizing appropriate communicative processes. * Providing appropriate and effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication regarding patient care processes. * Demonstrate safe, ethical, and legal practice. * Assist with the data entry into computer programs designed to schedule, collect data, analyze and collate data reports. The contract PTA s are expected to use the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR) to enter data in the inmate s medical record. * Issue and maintain physical therapy equipment as directed by supervising physical therapist. * Implements initial and discharge outcomes measurements when appropriate as deemed by Chief PT. * Completes all other assigned tasks as instructed by Chief PT based on needs of the clinic. Qualifications * Education: Physical Therapy Assistant must have graduated from a program which has satisfied the accreditation standards of the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education; * Licensure: Physical Therapy Assistant must have a valid Kentucky Physical Therapist Assistant license * Experience: Must have at least 6 months experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Additional information Staffing and Scheduling: * The Physical Therapy Assistant will normally work, Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, with a thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch period, (if applicable)...
